Flynn doesn’t recall where he was born. His earliest memory is of helping is father lay bricks for their oven, and the smile on his mother’s face when it was finished. He must have been three or four years old. He couldn’t recall. There are bits and phrases of life in his village during his early childhood, but the memory that stands out from the rest is when he was eight years old; The night his mother told him to hide in the oven. He awoke the next morning climbing out of the oven, to discover that the village was empty. He was alone.
Flynn went searching for his parents. For the next month, he wandered the forests barely surviving eating a diet of bugs and plantlife, it was summer at that time so nights didn’t get too cold. Then one morning he awoke to a girl screaming in fear as she accidentally stepped on a pile of leaves and realized there was a living creature under her feet. Flynn awoke and began to scream as well. The girl ran behind a tree. Flynn saw dark long hair and pale grey eyes as her freckled face peeked from behind the tree. “What are you doing out here all by yourself?” she screamed. “I don’t know, I’m lost” Flynn replied.
“Who are you hear with!?” The girl yelled. Flynn replied in a nervous manner “I don’t know... no one... it’s just me”
“What’s your name?” “Flynn”. *The girl looked confused and replied in a hush manner “No your full name?”. “My full name? It’s just Flynn. What’s your name?”
“Holly. Just holly.” *Flynn starts to stand up* “Don’t take another step ‘flynn’. I still don’t believe you’re alone. Where are your parents?” Flynn’s on the verge of tears, “I don’t know”.
Holly walks out from behind the tree, and slowly walks towards flynn... “I know how you feel”.
Holly takes Flynn back to what she calls her family, a caravan of traveling traders, most of them are Kharajyr selling everything from apparel to jewelry and gems.
“Who’s this boy Holly” says a female Kharajyr dressed in all black. “Hi Ka-Lynn! He’s a friend, I just found him. He’s just like me, his name is Flynn.”
“Oh no Holly, that’s most unfortunate. You know we can’t take on any more transients! Why would you bring him here?” shouts Ka-Lynn. “He’s alone, I found him sleeping under a pile of leaves. He has no family.” replies Holly in a quiet tone. “Well I assume we could use another hand. Maybe you can teach him how to... Collect. That’s a great Idea. Alright Flynn, you can stay with us.” Flynn quietly replies “Thank you ma'am.” “Tra’kul” Ka-lynn replies.
From then on, Flynn was on the move. Traveling from City to City all throughout Arcas. Holly taught flynn the art of “collecting” and Flynn and Holly were a superteam of “Item collectors” for Ka-lynn. She called them her collectors, but it was really just a inside term for thief. Flynn learned how to run away quickly and stay out of sight. He knew how to avoid confrontation and get himself out of sticky situations. When Flynn and Holly were 16 years old, they were collecting some items from a wealthy estate when suddenly the door opened. A man walked in to discover them inside of his house, and two other men walked in behind him. They tried to run, but there wasn’t another exit or window in sight, and they took holly and sold her into slavery. Flynn was beaten to near death and also enslaved, laying bricks for heartlander folk and learning the art of masonry.
When flynn was 19 the slavers had him laying bricks in the sewers underneath the city alone, and it was his perfect chance to escape. He ran as fast as he could in the opposite direction, and so far, no one’s been searching for him.
For the past year he’s been traveling throughout Arcas, looking for Holly, but mainly laying low. Flynn is small and vulnerable, and doesn’t want to get himself into too much trouble. “collecting” is still a way of life for him, but he also picks up small masonry jobs when he can. He doesn’t think of Holly too much, it hurts to imagine where she is or what is happening to her. He’s trying to make a life of his own now, deep inside hoping that he runs into her one day.
Flynn’s feels a bit more at ease, relieved to see a smiling face. “Opportunity, a fresh start. I’m a fan cities, always have been. Thought it’s about time I take on the big city.”
