In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is using outside knowledge that your character should not have the access to in an RP scenario. Example: an infamous thief is hiding in a cave near the city you, a guard, is stationed at. Seeking a hefty reward, you look through a Discord Chat
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Powergaming is when you force a result onto another player. Example: instead of typing out "Jason cuts towards Hans, delicately aiming for the pulsing veins on his throat", you'd write "Jason cuts towards Hans' throat, slashing the veins into two halves a

In the shadow of the night, the crisp clattering and clicking of mantes in synchronized, deep prayer, and the local grasshoppers with their ritualistic and oddly calming nocturnal activities can be heard in waves and tides, like the ocean and sea can be loudly heard by a naval grunt. However, as the constant sounds of wind and insect crackle through the area, anyone   adventurous enough to go on a precarious nightly walk would be greeted by the rustling of nearby bushes followed by the sudden appearance a scraggly and unkempt person resembling a relic of civilization with rotten rags and a heap of dust on his face. After witnessing such an ominous figure, one would have the many choices of: screaming and running away; screaming and whacking the figure to a bloody pulp; or screaming and staying stationary and alert, witnessing the preposterous and frequently mundane speech(es) of what would appear to be a poor conman.

To begin dissecting this brilliant specimen of a complete and utter mistake, one would have to go back, far back to the era when he was born. In this brief capsule of time, this man born in Atlas, and raised within the Kingdom of Santegia, this being named Insensé was conceived, popped out the womb fresh, was looked at with a single glance by both mother and father, and gained a heavy handed sigh of grief directed towards his creation. When he reached childhood in an arguably low-income family, he had the pleasure of hearing many beloved fairy tale stories. One story that revealed his troubling idiocy was the story of The Four Brothers: Horen, Malin, Krug, and Urguan, the creators of the four descendant races and sons of The Creator. For no logical reason, he decided to understand the story as if he had never been educated, believing that The Four Brothers were four drunken men in a stupor and intense haze that they began to fight out in the streets, causing a riot which rivaled the nations. Of course, this was completely and utterly false and nothing short of heretical, which earned him the scorn of many of those that were unfortunately in his company. Insensé would continue with these outrageous claims constantly, eventually reaching to his ridiculous claim that a quadruple-split non-magical force was gifted to him by the laws of the universe and was accurately named “Coun-Vean-Eine-Ance” (convenience). Using this newfound and nonexistent power, he began to commit many fraudulent acts in front of friend and foe, always making sure to refer to his power and be able to conveniently write up an alibi on how the purse in his hands just so happened to look exactly the same as his grandmother’s and contain the same goods stored in her purse right when her purse went missing all of a sudden. After a few too many bouts with “Coun-Vean-Eine-Ance” in his little village, he came home during a lovely evening to a backpack containing all of his belongings and the stern faces of both family members and guards. Unfortunately, the power he had was not great enough to find a way out of this one little incident, and so he had nowhere else to go but to somewhere. He eventually became a vagrant, dealing in more acts of fraud, such as selling dyed water bottles as potions, or selling regular wheat as a special eastern variety meant to invigorate the body. To this day, he would wander on and on, occasionally begging for coin or picking change off the streets. It seemed as his understanding of the word “work” did not exactly align with what most believe it to be, leaving any task the moment he deemed it difficult or challenging.

Knowing all of this, the onlooker would dismiss this Insensé as nothing more than the effect of poor parental care or general bad luck. They may even chalk it up to him being an aspiring jester, clown, storyteller, or applying for the regarded, grand, and highly-competitive positions of “village idiot” and “village loony”. However, one thing that was consistent in almost all interactions with this strangely inept being known as “Insensé” is that nothing made sense, that nothing should be taken to note. Whether be it adhering to his self-image of a hero of the weak and poor to gain the funding of the local villagers, to later being a campaigner of the nobility only mere moments later due to the closest guard menacingly staring at him whilst gripping a heavy-looking halberd, Insensé’s morals and beliefs shatter as easily as glass and are replaced as quickly as ant workers. Strangely enough, one common and oddly consistent theory that all who have met him agree on is that Insensé is a stupid, stupid man.

Character Name: Insensé "Sauge" Parlant
Character Race: Human
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 23
Physical Description: Insensé's attire consists of bland brown colours and torn, ragged clothing. His pale face, green eyes, and brown hair display nothing of importance.
Roleplay Scenario: The traveller has just arrived in a small town. As they look around, their gaze is met with run down houses and shops. They duck into one of the shacks, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the small room, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”

"Oh, I just, uh…" The traveler stutters, tensing up. They eye the crone, then back outside the shack. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until…

Ø  Please make sure that your character’s biography is written in a clear and straightforward manner. While it is fine to be a little creative, try to refrain from using too many analogies as it can make it unclear as to what you actually mean. Remember that the character biography is written from an out of character perspective.

Ø  Unfortunately, your character could not have been born in Avalain as it has not existed for long enough in game. For places that your character was born in or lived in as a child, please find places from the previous map/continent of the server named ‘Atlas’. While Atlas is no longer inhabited, your character would have lived there as a child. Only use places from the current map, ‘Arcas’, for places that your character may have visited in the last ten years or so.

Ø  I am uncertain as to what you mean in the part about ‘Coun-vean-eine-ance’ and how this affects his family’s reputation. Please make this clearer or remove it.

Ø  Your character cannot possess any magic whatsoever and must be one of the four descendant races or a Halfling. Please be sure to make it clear in your character’s biography that your character is just a human and not truly a cursed creature.

Ø  Everything in your character’s biography must be from/fit into the server lore. Saying that if your character’s ideals aren’t replaced by himself, it could ‘disrupt the four great elements and banish all of reality into a pit of never ending pit of doom’, would be extremely lore breaking.

Ø  Your character’s physical description should describe more about their physical attributes such as hair colour, eye colour, build and any other distinguishing features.

Hello Aquaquean,

I tried to implement the changes you requested to the best of my ability, but I’d like to clarify two things:
The part of “...disrupting the four great elements” is purely hyperbole, and not literal. Just an over exaggeration for the sake of comedy, but I did remove it since it may have been confusing. Additionally, “Coun-Vean-Eine-Ance” is another joke, as it’s meant to a tongue-in-cheek reference to “convenience”. Hence, his ideals and actions change for “convenience”. Also, I apologize for not clarifying that the character is not actually cursed nor magical. Him being a “curse” is just a piece of deprecating humor. I meant to convey that the word “cursed” is being used similarly to how someone may say that the streets of New York City are “cursed” with traffic. However, in the aim of reaching clarity I removed that as well. He’s also human, as stated in the Character Race section below the biography, and I changed most instances of the words “being” and “creature” to “person” or “him” to better clarify his race. The aim of my character is that he is equivalent to the poor comedy relief characters often seen in sitcoms, so if there’s anything that might indicate him possessing a serious power/advantage, it’s most likely not the case.

I tried to adhere to your comments as best as I can, so please notify me if there’s anything more you’d like me to do, or if you’d just prefer me to scrap the whole backstory and write it in an extremely straightforward manner. I personally would prefer not to have to do so, as it could detract from the main theme of the character, but if you deem it necessary, then I will do so.

Thank you,

Ghostnn
