Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
"Oh-- uhhhh.. me? You sure you got the right person?"
The lady nods.
"Soooo.. who are you again? Am I supposed to know you?"
"Wait-- I understand. I'm just a... traveler, nothing more than that."
Leo would maybe try to shift the topic away from himself, likely bringing up other things happening around the town. Leo's past was filled with strange people who he didn't trust, and the old hag reminded him of one of these people from his past life. He hated talking to people he found threatening, let alone giving them personal information.
"What is this town? Who decided to build a town in this.. wet.. weird creature filled area, I swear there's a giant plain right outside of the swamp."
If the lady persisted, he would begin to fight back (with words). He often uses this as a defense when the people around him would constantly helicopter over his activities. He just wanted a time to be alone with the people he trusted.
"Why are you here? Who are you? Why so many questions?"
The lady explained, giving Leo a sense of safety and allowing him to talk a bit about himself.
"I've had some trouble with.. people.. in general. I've always wanted to find the perfect people that are just like me, but I think in the end the problem is myself. I wish I had been more trusting to some of the people around me, maybe I wouldn't feel as much regret as I do feel now. Abandoning your peers isn't the kindest of things to do."
Upon saying it out loud, he realized what he could change. He realized why he was here-- to begin anew. Forge a new identity, instead of dwelling on the past and on himself. And so, he began his journey.
