In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: The best way to avoid power gaming is to call it out, to set boundaries and clarify actions before/during/after role-play. For example should my character suddenly enter a physical conflict with another character, it's important speak in 'ooc' first to make sure the other characters involved are firstly consenting and willing to fight, and to make sure there's a good reason for it, and to also allow for calm and peaceful exits out of the fight if needed. This way I can figure out if I'm being attacked for no reason, or they're genuinely roleplaying their character properly. If all goes well, we have a good constructive interaction that actually benefits the both of us, rather than just their character beating me in a fight. I'm rarely one to randomly fight someone with a character, unless pre-determined or planned a little in advance, so hopefully this shouldn't be an issue!
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is the easiest thing to do, especially by accident, but it's often the most important rule for role-play. It's very important to make sure to separate your own OOC knowledge from the IC knowledge of your character, and often those lines can be blurred. It can ruin certain aspects of your character, for example no one knows your character's real name, but due to in-game name tags, others may just start referring to your character by their full name. I've seen this happen on other role-play servers, where people often learn information by accident. And it also adds better interactions with world knowledge, such as you knowing where certain locations are, but making sure you character only learns these locations in game, resulting in them getting lost, or failing to follow directions, landing you with even better and more original role-play!

Character Name: Harrison Dalgaad
Character Race: Adunian
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 20
Physical Description: A brown haired Adunian, standing at 6'2" with a skinny build, typically wearing his blue and gold robe
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Harrison's eyes dart to the old lady, her presence surprising him. "GAH!" He exclaims, straightening his back and standing up straight, the top of his head colliding with a low wooden beam, a solid thud echoing through the tent. He hisses, bending his back down again and rubbing his head, shooting a glare at the woman as if to blame her for his own jitteriness.

"My story?" he begins through slightly closed eyelids, still rubbing his head with his left hand. His right hand stretches out, pointing to her. "My story, is to become to greatest knight this land has ev-" he's cutoff as history repeats itself. In his excitement to finally proclaim the reason for his quest to Azuras, he stood up straight once more, his skull colliding with the same wooden beam it collided with moments before.

Both hands now clutched his head, his knees bent slightly and head curled downwards. The quiet chuckles of the lady were concealed by Harrison's own grunting "FFF- jee- .." he opened his eyes, tilting his head up at the ceiling with a squint and a slightly opened mouth. "Why is this .. tent so small" he grumbled, looking to the lady once more. His great entry, his dramatic entrance that he had planned for weeks had been foiled by simple carpentry. With a defeated breath, he just mumbled "Which way is Indunia?".

Once his question was answered, he trudged back out of the tent, head as low as he could bring it. If he had a tail, it would certainly be tucked between his legs.
