Otho Longriver was born into a poor halfling family in Gimblewood. His parents were Lily and Celebor Longriver. When he was born, were Celebor and Lily still quite young, and not ready for a baby. Celebor had a serious drinking issue, and the family did not have nearly enough money to take care dor the child well enough. Otho had no siblings. He was not schooled well enough. Still to this day Otho doesn't know how to read, and doesn't know numbers bigger than 20.(The combined amount of his toes and fingers.) Otho was very young when he was put to work on wheatfields. His only friend was the local bartender, but Otho never remembered to ask about his name. When Otho was 29 years old, his mother died from a dangerous disease. That was a huge shock for both Otho and Celebor. Celebor tried drowning all of his sadness in beer. The drinking did not help well. After Celebor lost his job he sent Otho to travel far away to get enough money for his father and him to survive. When Otho was 35, he got the word about the death of his father.
"Adventure, yes. Wealth, yes. But not the third option." I replied to the man.
"Can you show me the way to a bar with reasonable prices, or to someone, that needs some workforce on their field?" I continued.
The man had to think for a while before telling me to follow him. He killed two birds with one stone. I was shown the way to a bar, and the owner was looking for a bartender. A few years later I left the town and continued my travels.
