How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is using knowledge you found out out-of-character in-character to your advantage. For example, mentioning a secret as your character you may have been told by a friend over voice chat to someone in the town in order to cause drama, even though you are playing someone of lower class and your friend are of nobility.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is making your character have unrealistic features or do unrealistic / overpowered acts to benefit yourself. For instance, having magical powers that kill people instantly on the spot.

"Urhm-" Felicity began to murmur under her breath,  "'tis new for me, this place. I got nuh idea - nufin' I got to do. Better sort it out." She moved her hands to clasp her fingers together, resting the pair above her belt. The common girl had no choice but to give the man a sheepish smile. After all, it was her mother who taught her that anyone who looked as though they had some bit of status was to be treated with sincerity. As the man gave her a respectable nod, Felicity raised her right arm to give him a wave before maneuvering herself into the market crowd; unnoticeable.
