Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
He responded with a shaking voice...
"Well... It is a bit complicated... I was born in a small town that doesn't exist now... At the time named Notinghad. There, I lived for the first 20 years of my life until I decided to escape. I was bored of the village and my parents were very disapproving of me... They wanted me to be a farmer but it is not who I wanted to be. When I escaped, I went to the nearby river where I met with other villagers form a nearby village. They gave me some food and helped me out a bit. I discovered that one of them was able to get me into the nearby kingdom and make me knight. I followed them but it was a scam. I was thrown into the raging fires of the gods as a sacrifice. As it was a pit, I landed on the side and did not get burnt fully. However, my hair caught on fire and my face did so too shortly after. I was on fire for a whole day. Somehow, I could not die. I waited and waited in intense pain for the release of death, but never died... As I realized that I wouldn't die, I headed for the nearby river and soaked myself in. I was a monster, a full on nightmare. Pieces of skin and muscles hanging out of my bones. I cleaned it off and looked myself in the water. Somehow, my eyes were still there, just nothing else was... I got up and started walking still disturbed with my new body. Somehow, as if by magic, I could move... I got to the nearest clothes shop and robbed a white robe that was enough to cover my whole face. You know the rest.. Anyhow, where is that money you were gonna give me?."
"She was quickly to say "Interesting story, young man, now tell me, why did you think I was gonna give you money?, I will instead be taking you to another world... Let's see if you make it there..."
"Oh, I just, uh…" you stutter, tensing up. You eye the crone, then back outside the tent. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until you fall asleep and wake up in a cubic world...
