In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Keep a calm playstyle and interact with players normally, with every action should come a reaction from the other person. To help prevent powergaming, you should always wait for the player to react, so that both can go along with the roleplay situation. This gives people the opportunity to escelate, de-escalate and shape the roleplay experience
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: It does not follow the 'lore' of the world and makes RP less exciting. For example, I should put my character into the world as a 'blank slate'. He should only know what he has learned in his 'lore' before entering the world. Everything the character learns should be what he experiences. OOC knowledge opens up unfair advantages and disrupts the balance.

Character Name: Aethelwulf
Character Race: Highlander
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 23
Physical Description: Blue Eyes, brown/dark blonde hair. 6ft, 80kg. Wears chainmail over his tunic in a nordic style
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

'Thank you.. I'm afraid I can't give you a great reason apart from looking for better trades. You see, growing agriculture up north is a great difficulty.. I have come here to look for something greater, something that my people can thrive on.' Aethelwulf reaches into his long coat, showing the lady an old carving, with cracks already on the edges of the wooden surface, hinting at its age.  On the carving, people and horses forming a caravan are depicted, giving the impression to be on a journey. 'This is one of the things that give us hope in this cursed world.' Aethelwulf lowers himself onto the cushion, the fabric of his long coat rustling with the movement. His fingers still clutch the carving tightly, his gaze shifts from the penetrating stare of the old hag. 'Hope.. thats what we all cling to, isn't it?' Aethelwulf runs his fingers across the edges of the wood. 'It was given to me by an elder from my village', he mutters 'he said it would guide us to something better.. In the end, I am just here to follow the hope he has given me.'
