The circumstances in which Hjoag was born are unknown both to him and the church that took him in after finding him at their doorstep one morning in the Deep Cold of 1605. He was kindly taken in by the priests and raised as an acolyte in the apostolic kingdom of Marna until he was old enough to fare by himself. Having grown accustomed to the ways of Canonism, he joined a monastery, where he lead a more scholastic way of life. However, Hjoag mostly kept to his books and worked as a scribe, translating dozens of works between several languages, in which he became proficient. The last 10 years he spent at the monastery, Hjoag is said to have gone into a silent reflective retreat, breaking it the day he left in an almost religious pilgrimage to the Grand Library of Dragur in search of more knowledge. He now resides in a secluded location, his only companions being his books and the plants he grows in his small, well-tended garden.
