In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Based on other roleplaying games and servers I have played outside of Minecraft, I understand that powergaming can be avoided by allowing others to react to your actions at their own pace. To do this, you must write your actions with their response in mind. You can also avoid powergaming by writing actions that are entirely within the realm of possibility. This might include not pulling items, weapons and God-like potions from thin air that conveniently aid your position, and not suddenly gaining superhuman strength and overcoming death with an entirely unrealistic action.

An example of powergaming: "... dips the ebony blade in an oil-filled pouch. Magical embers trickle up his fingers, until the blade is doused in flame. He takes mental aim, and without warning, launches the blade at full speed. Bone audibly cracks as it pierces the Orc's skull, killing him instantly".

To avoid powergaming, this can be re-written as such: "... dips the ebony blade into an oil-filled pouch. Magical embers trickle up his fingers, until the blade is overcome by flame. He stretches an arm out to aim his throw, making his intentions known to the Orc ahead of him..."

This gives the Orc chance to dodge (perhaps aided by a /roll command to generate an RNG number to determine the success), therefore, powergaming is avoided.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: In roleplay, everybody should strive for fairness and realism within the realm of what is lore-friendly, and only known to their character. If I hop into an OOC (out-of-character) voice-chat with my friends and they are telling me about a fun RP experience they had at some royal palace where their characters learned of war plans, I would not then take that information IC (in-character) on my human beggar character, who would have no sight of such affairs.

A disruptive example of metagaming comes commonly from experiencing bugs or unintentional *features* of the game that provide you with information that you shouldn't have been exposed to. In another game I have roleplayed on, you could sometimes see text that would hover over items, through walls. Taking this information IC and acting on your knowledge of the item existing at the other side of the wall is blatant metagaming. If that item was, for example, something illegal, and your character was an enforcer of law, and you used the unfairly-obtained information to raid the building, you would be disrupting their gameplay by metagaming.

Character Name: Faunalyn Zylvaris
Character Race: Wood Elf
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 22
Physical Description: Faunalyn is 5' 1", 126lbs, has burnt-orange hair and green eyes. She usually wears a long, loose tunic of some foresty colour, paired with a belt.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Faunalyn's throat bobs, and her face screws into a muddy, pale mess. Her eyes well, and through the dryness of her throat, she manages.. "Aliwynn, I .."; Faunalyn drops to her knees, cut and brusied from days of trecking through the southern wood. Her face finds refuge in the palms of her hands, and her eyes give in to the tears that are anxiously waiting to escape. They carve their way down the palms of her hands. Sobs fill the silence of the tent, and between each sniffle, she manages: "I can't- tell you- how good- it is to see you".

Her torn leather sleeve is dragged beneath her nose, clearing the meld of snot and dirt. "I'm sorry. It's been a hard week. I was told to find you and, now that you're here, in front of me, I just...". The need to sniffle away the mess escaping from her face interrupts her. "Aspects preserve me, I don't know how I'm alive."
