Kydiss

Kydiss Ward was born in the Highlands.  Being a highlander he grew up in the harsh far north, a small village with a dozen families.  He is the son of a hunter/gatherer who would provide meat and other wild edibles and travel long distances for long periods of time to bring back food for his family and the village.  When Kydiss was about five years old travelers came through and spoke of The Eternal Library in the Silver State of Haelun’or.  Kydiss had an affinity for literature and set in his mind to visit it one day. When Kydiss was about 15 years old when his village was raided by Orcs.  His family and two of his friends were able to escape and flee into the wilderness with the clothes on their back and a couple of packs of items.  It took months to find and establish a new home, Amos, his one friend was a the son of a smith, and was able to forge metal items, tools and weapons, the the other, Yasitha was the love his Kydiss’ life.  After a year Yasitha fell ill, after weeks of spiking fevers and infection she passed.  Kydiss’ father and mother contracted the same illness and fell deathly ill and passed of the same illness.  Kydiss and Amos fled the small homestead and eventually parted ways.  Kydiss knew well of the lessons his father taught him of hunting, tracking, gathering, and general survival.  At the age of 18 he left the highlands and started south, into the vast cities and towns.  He came across a wild horse, one he was able to tame and train that became his pack horse and eventual friend.  He named the horse Vespi.  Kydiss spent nights in tents and caves living off the land and eventually ended up in various cities and towns where he was able to trade his wares from traveling for coin which allowed him luxurious accommodations from his usual cold grass or stone sleeping situations.  One night Vespi was stolen by a hunting party of bandits and all his goods had been taken.  To this day Kydiss wonders what happened to Vespi, if he survived and is still roaming around, or if he’s wandering lost in the wilds looking for his friend and rider.  Kydiss tends to like shiny items because they fetch him the best trade value, he’s been known to steal items from stores and persons to sell them in another town or city.  To this day he’s never been accused or caught.  Kydiss tends to wear a scarf over his lower face mostly to protect it from wind, rain, and other elements in nature, though when uncovered he has a beard to his chest.
