    In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Personally, whenever I involve myself in a roleplay, I like to make sure that my character, as well as my actions, stay very grounded. Whenever I start a new adventure, I use a fresh, unexperienced character, so that I don't accidentally cause any unfair advantage or actions that upset my fellow role-players. As well as this, I try to hold myself accountable, so that it's a more fun experience for both me and any other partner I might be interacting with. I find it unfair when someone does something that's realistically not possible that affects my character's pathway, and I try not to do stuff like that so that everyone else can have fun.
    In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is horrible when it comes to disrupting a fair roleplay, as it gives many unfair advantages to those who commit it. Instead of finding out information by exploring the world, and gathering information from in-character interactions, it makes everyone feel like they're being taken out of their immersion, because someone decided to unfairly use the information they learned out of character, and have their character 'magically' learn it with no in-character explanation. It ruins immersion, it ruins plans, and overall it's an unfair way for someone to experience roleplay.

Roleplay Scenario:

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Example:

Leon hesitates, his eyes widening in surprise at the hag’s words. He wasn’t used to being recognized, and certainly not by strangers in places like this. He cleared his throat softly as he slowly sat down, glancing around the tent,
"My story? Well, uh..."

Leon hesitated once again as he glanced down, unsure of where to truly start. He fidgeted with his fingers a bit, before looking up,
"There's not much really... If I'm gonna be honest-"

Leon let out a soft, sheepish chuckle as he looked at the hag, scratching the back of his head,
"I come from a small fishing village, spent most of my life helping my father, we were one of many families that made their living off of fishing, or carving out boats for fishermen. Every time I've gone out on one of those boats though, I'd look out across the coast and... prayed, prayed that one day I'd be able to leave this small village, and find myself, find adventure, glory!"

Leon exclaimed that last part as he looked at the hag, before settling down a bit as he glanced at the floor,
"I knew though, that I'd never find any sort of adventure in that village... so, I packed a small bag, and left. My mother, always supportive of my dreams, wished me luck, but my father... He couldn't even look me in my eyes, as I wished him well."

Leon paused for a moment, reminiscing on old memories, before shaking his head out of his thoughts,
"No matter now though... I took the first carriage I could find, and set off, to find adventure! I'm... not quite sure what exactly this 'Adventure' will detail for me, but I have hope. Hope that once I set forth out into this grand world, I'll be able to find exactly what I'm looking for... Grand Adventure. A chance to prove that I'm more than just a fisherman's son, a chance to prove that I, Leon McCarty, will make my mark upon this land!"
