    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Using information that the player knows that the character does not.

    A character needs a reason to know something and it should be believable.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: There are lots of ways to powergame, for me the worst is when a player takes away the agency of another player's character. However one can also simply attempt something that their character has no reasonable justification for being able to do (I'd just call that cheating),

Luirlan eyes moved up and down the man before him, looking to see if the garments he wore were truly well made or the type of dreck meant to fool the uncultured. He decided,  since it was unlikely to be of elven make, that it was a little of both. "My place in society is surely elevated past the point that you could help me raise it." He took a sniff of the smells of the market and feared this low place would be his last moment of civilization before he'd need to travel on into the wilds, after all, lost things would not reveal themselves. With as sigh he looked at the man, "What exactly are you attempting to sell me?"
