Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
Mylaela hesitates for a moment, the damp air curling around her like smoke. She brushes a few strands of hair behind her hood and pulls her mask up further. She stands firm where she is, eyeing the stranger with curiosity and cautiousness.
“…You’ve been expecting me?” she whispers. “Nothing ever stays hidden for long, does it?”
She folds her hands in her lap, her gaze drifting to the floating candles. “I’m Mylaela Leoqirelle. My Father is rather influential in the merchant business. You’ve probably heard of him - wealth, influence, expectations thicker than the vines outside this very tent. My life was carved out for me before I could even walk. Courtly dances, elocution lessons, endless lectures about legacy and duty.”
Her voice grows quieter, more distant. “But I was never meant to be caged in velvet halls. Not when the forests whispered to me. Not when the stars called my name. So, I learned to move through shadows. To slip past guards. To trade silk slippers for worn leather boots. Every night I became someone else—an explorer, a traveller, a seeker of things not spoken of at banquets.”
She glances up at the hag, eyes glowing slightly in the dim light. “I came to this swamp because something is pulling me here. A dream. A vision. A name I don’t remember learning, but that keeps echoing in my mind.” She leans in, her voice low. “I don’t think this is just another stop on the road. I think this place knows something about me I’ve yet to understand.”
A flicker of uncertainty passes over her face—but only for a moment. “So go on then. Tell me why you’ve been waiting and how you discovered my identity.”
