How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming comes from the word "meta", which is knowledge that is outside of the internal knowledge. In a third person point of view, it is omniscient, and in most RP environments, having this knowledge from an out of character point of view gives an unfair advantage in-character. For example, identifying the location of a gold horde of a powerful duke after in a separate RP, where your character is not within that situation, and you take advantage of it.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Overall, powergaming is considered a means of autohit/forcing an unfair or unrealistic action, such as doing something with ease or without question. For example, a powergame move would be writing something such as "Lord Voltruk beheads the Shadow Knight with ease, severing any chance of their escape and winning the duel", and instead it should be done with "Lord Voltruck swings his sword horizontally with the violent intent to kill" .

**Markov Etchson, a man of a warrior's past, and a scholarly present, would greet the man in a civilized manner, yet have a passive aura of attempted dominance

"Glad to meet you.. 'ere... What is your name?"
**The man would state their name and their occupation

"Well nice to meet you... I would feel.. delighted.. if you 'ere to help me learn about this city. Its ar't and the great contributions to society"

**He would gleefully take him and talk about the history of the city, as much as he were to know deep knowledge of it

"I appreciate a tour of this beauty of a city... Well I'd perhaps like a pint with you later once I do some research..."

**Markov always enjoyed heavy drinking and grandeur. While he tried to be sophisticated, drinking would bring out his more militant and warrior past

"Until then... see you th'ere!"
**He would leave for the bar for some downtime, going against his previous plans. Then he promised to himself he would explore the city
