How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is the use of knowledge that a character doesn't have but the player does have. Gaining info via the ooc chat, any voice chat or stuff like the wiki or forum postings.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is a problem across all roleplay, usually associated with the 'mary sue' or 'snow flake' type characters who are perfect, flawless and always complete their actions without consequence. when dealing with other players, powergaming is an attempt to rob people of their agency, completing or forcing actions onto them, sometimes in entirely unrealistic manners in a godmodding fashion.

Theo would stare up at the well dressed man, entirely too happy for him. "I'm looking for a drink and a place to rest my 'ead." he'd respond to them and try to walk around the individual who'd decide that it was going to be their mission to speak with him, following along. "Surely you're quite a character? A cave dwarf, traveling above ground, across the sea on a boat no less!" the strange man would go on, trying to pry more info from the dwarf. Theo would sigh and shake his head, he didn't like talking that much himself and this guy invading his personal space was quick to get on the nerve of the dwarf.

"I'm not a character for your book or story or watever 'ave ye. I'm not interested in talking to ya laddy." he'd say, making his way through the crowded bazaar, ducking between people as this tall lanky figure kept pursuit much more easily, sliding his way between bodies. "Nonesense! Everyone has a tale to tell!" he'd say in a nearly plastic happy tone to Theo in kind. Grumbling more, the man would keep poking and prodding him for the majority of the way through the bazaar, veins beginning to become visible on the bald head as a migraine would begin to brew behind the brow of the poor cave dwarf.

"Surely there must be something juicy you can tell me! Perhaps a lover...?" The man would circle over his head, like a vulture coming down to strip the last bits of meat from a corpse, feeling like he was about to strike the story of the Dwarf. This was an unfortunate cord with the man as he'd turn around and explode with anger. "Wat? Wat is it you want to know about me? 'Ow choking the air in the mines is? 'Ow you never truly get the coal out from underneath your fingernails, or is it the scars that a dwarf's soul can bear, the gaping wounds left in it by misfortune? 'Ow a weight can bear down upon a man more forcibly than tons of stone resting upon his back and he still can manage to get up and walk?" He'd shout at the man in anger now, glaring up at him.

"I... umm... no... i wasn't looking for that..." the tall man would sheepishly respond, clutching his quill and notepad closely to his chest now.  "Then you can take your fancy cloth, take that notepad and quill... AND SOD OFF!" Theo would shout once more and turn around, walking away, grumbling under his breath and disappearing into the crowds. The enigmatic man left staring at the furious little dwarf, quickly falling out of view due to his stature and the density of the crowds.
