Ivette Taylor was born to Elizabeth Taylor and Philip Taylor. Though her parents were married when she was born, her older brother was the result of a secret love affair between her parents in their teenage years. However, upon her mother’s pregnancy, her parents were quickly forced to marry by their parents. Despite their situation, Elizabeth and Taylor still loved their son with all of their hearts. At the time, they loved each other as well. When her brother, Fabian, was of walking age, Ivette was brought into the family. Everything was swell. They were as happy as they could be in their home in Skjoldier.
Due to living in a contested village, Ivette’s family was always on alert of the witches’ next arrival. She and her brother were given strict curfews, and often not permitted to leave the house. If that wasn’t suffocating enough, the two were constantly watched and being hovered over. They were educated at home, and were distant from the other children. Fortunately, they had each other, and were very close. Sadly, everything changed within their household when the family was struck with tragedy. After her brother was left blinded in one eye in a work accident, he was seen as useless, and handed over to the witches. In their grief, her once loving parents became distant of her and each other. Philip became a bumbling drunk, often coming home and beating his wife and daughter. When he wasn’t home, he was out of the town doing Mother knows what. However, thanks to the communal family culture of Skjoldier, she was often able to avoid her father when he was in his alcohol-influenced state. She simply stayed with other members of her village. Unfortunately, despite how often she would be around others, she never built a bond with the other villagers. It was near impossible for her to become close with anyone else after losing her brother. When the trust faded within her family, so went her ability to trust.
Soon, Ivette grew to marrying age. As her birthday gift, the village presented Ivette with a finance. However, after enduring such abuse, Elizabeth feared the life that would become of her daughter on Skjoldier. Even if she managed to find a home in the Citadel, the future was still uncertain. When the pleading for travel via boat didn’t work, the women resorted to smuggling Ivette onto a boat. Behind her remained a broken home, a confused finance, and everything she once knew. She was to begin life anew in the foreign land of Kaedrin. In an attempt to erase all that she was before, she cut her hair and took over a new fashion sense.

I’d step off the boat and onto the port, a bit queasy from the sea sickness. However, the sickness subsided as my ears and mind were flooded with the liveliness and noise of the bazaar. It was nothing like what I was used to on Skjoldier. I had only examined the colorful surroundings for a moment before my thoughts were interrupted by the cheerful greeting. I turned toward the well-dressed man, offering a small wave and a weak, semi-awkward smile. “Adventure, I suppose. I simply couldn’t remain where I was previously.”
