Kaljuk was born in a small village in the mountains. The first few years of his live he happily lived there with his parents and his older sister. One day however the village was attacked by a large group of bandits. They burnt everything down and forced the villagers to flee. But while trying to save her children Kaljuks' mother fell victim to the flames and was killed as their house broke together over her head and buried her beneath its' ruins. Kaljuks' sister and father managed to flee, but Kaljuk himself was left behind after he fell and got trapped beneath the panicking villagers' feet, who nearly trampled him to death at that day. He was pulled out of the crowd by one of the bandits, who held him captive for a couple of days, but eventually showed mercy and let the boy go. Kaljuk was lucky and met an old woman that took him in and cared for him 'till he was 16. After she had died of old age he went off to live his own life and eventually find his father and sister, who he was certain about were still alive. Since two years he'd been wandering around, taking small job offers in every village and city he passed through to make a living. He eventually built himself a home in an unpopulated area of the kingdom of Haense, to have a place to rest and come back to from time to time.
Kaljuk looked at the man, not saying anything for a brief moment.
"Neither. I'm just searching for quick work that can get me some money.", he finally answered.
The man seemed to think for a moment. "I might know a guy who could offer you a job like that.",
Kaljuk raised an eyebrow, seemingly interested. The man turned around and started walking deeper into the bazaar, it was obvious that he expected Kaljuk to follow him, so that's what the boy did. They walked for a bit until they reached a stand in a dark back-alley, the well dressed man turned around once again, with a big smile on his face. He ringed a little bell that hung from the stand, only a few heartbeats later an old woman appeared from a curtain, sealing off the back of the stand.
"Who disturbs me?!",
She demanded to know in a harsh voice, which immediately turned softer once she saw the man.
"Oh! Mr. Sullyman, please excuse me, you're always welcome here!", she rustled,
"And may I ask who this lovely gentleman is?", She looked at Kaljuk.
"Mrs. Agarj.", Sullyman smiled. "I just met this gentleman as he arrived in our lovely city. He's searching for a quick job to get him some money. If I remember correctly then you were always able to help with exactly such job requests!",
Mrs. Agarjs' smile widened. "Oh but of course! Follow me Mr. .. ?",
"Kõiv.", Kaljuk quickly replied to the unspoken question.
"Mr. Kõiv! What a beautiful name, it sounds so exotic, you're not from here are you?",
Kaljuk shook his head.
"Well, in that case I should tell you some things about our city beforehand! Why don't you follow me Mr. Kõiv? I'll explain everything to you on the way!"
