The Carter family where a family lineage full of merchants. From the day the Carters landed in Arcas they had sought to buy cheap and sell high. This had over the years made them moderatley wealthy. That is until the great wars conducted by the Holy Orenian Empire. Especially the war with the Free State of Sutica as a lot of trade the Carters dealt with involved Sutica. With the raising of taxes and the call for troops the Carter family slowly lost they status and wealth. Thomas for now was just another member of this dying family. A family with no real influence in the world anymore. His dad the head of the house and spent away most of what was left of the Carter fortune on wine and good food. His mother had died a few years after his birth due to an unexplained illness. Thomas was mostly left to fend for himself through his upbringing, with no mother, siblings, or even household pets. His father Aethorn had sent him to live at a boarding school in Helena, which Thomas always found weird because the family house was there too. At school is where he met most of his friends, who had all sadly passed away at early ages. Thomas had also attended college as his aspiration was always to seek political office, he thought of it as a way to rebuild the family name. After graduation Thomas worked up until his 27th birthday as a baker at a small bakery, until his employer had discovered that he didn't really believe in the teaching of the church of Canonism. He now finds himself unemployed and nothing to his name, and in need of a fresh start. Thomas had noticed a posting outside the House of Commons seeking candidates for election, perhaps one day. First things first Thomas needs to find a place to live and employment to make a living.
A fresh ocean breeze hits Thomas' checks as his boot hits the old wooden deck of the dock. He breathes out a sigh of relief "I've made it" he whispers to himself. As he readjusts his rucksack he scurries onwards into the bazaar. Shops of every color and size, selling goods ranging from spices and linin to swords and apples where sprawled all around a large area. Thomas trots towards a stall selling roasted chicken with a hungry look on his face, when suddenly an older man stops and grabs Thomas by the bag. Thomas nearly trips forward as the man exclaims "Welcome, what brings you to this lovely city?". Thomas fixes his hair and stairs oddly at the man as he says "Well I suppose a sense of adventure, what is it to you?". The man adjusts his glasses and says "Well I have a fine selection of maps of every kind, large to small, heavy to light, I am sure I have something you might like". Thomas peers over and sees a little booklet of sorts, it was small enough to fit in ones pocket but seemed to have all of Acras painted on it. It must have been pretty old as the paper was almost crumbling together. "He looked up at the man and said "I suppose I'll take this one". He took one last look onto the map as he tried to decide on where to go next.
