Born near the city of Markev, Vilhelm was born into poverty alongside his brother, Franz. His father was a former soldier, discharged for disobeying orders, his mother a former matron of an orphanage. Both were forced to perform grueling, menial tasks in order to put food on the table, and feed their two young boys.
The two brothers were trained by the father in the arts of combat, both becoming highly skilled with the sword. They also gained some proficiency with the bow, using this skill mostly for hunting.
When the boys matured, they were sent off by their parents with only a pair of swords, some carrots, and two pairs of sturdy hiking boots. They sold their services to whoever would take them, be it guarding caravans, fighting bandits, hunting: The Strauss boys did it all.
Until one day, on what seemed to be an ordinary job protecting a caravan, a massive group of highwaymen swarmed the traveling group. In the ensuing fight, both men were knocked unconscious by the blows of a bandit’s cudgel, resulting in amnesia and a killer headache.
Now, the boys try to make sense of the world they have forgotten, using what little they still remember to help guide them in this dangerous new land.
