Humphrey was born in Marna, his parents were the conventional sort. His father was a military man and his mother was a home maker, they were fairly well off but Humphrey's family was still modest in how they lived. From a young age the idea's of the Church of The Canon were instilled into him, this made the young Humphrey turn into quite the devotee to GOD. As he grew, he began to be taught combat under his father's tutelage, learning all he could from the mediocre soldier his father was. Though the benefit of having a constant homemaker mother was that he was also tutored in reading and academics, learning as much as he could, which was not a lot. After a bit of prodding for permission, when he was sixteen, he got permission to visit The Dragur Library, reading much about combat tactics and alchemy. The man, when he came back to Marna, had learned quite a lot about combat from the pamphlets he was able to find, but the thought of Alchemy still lingered in the back of his mind.
Though, when he was at The Library of Dragur he had taken stumbled upon books about horrid creatures and curses, such as Shades, Liches, Ghouls, Dreadknights, Frost Witches, Gravens, horrid tales about faeries. From these brief glimpses into the world outside of his city, secluded in the woods and tall walls, his mind wandered and swelled with fear at the thought of these horrid creatures. In his mind, the world outside of Marna was filled with ghouls and ghosties, a deep horror dwelled within him for many years, fuelling strange fancies and ideas. The young man began to learn much of what he could about machines, constructions, and alchemy. In his mind he dreamed of making a machine for eradicating these creatures with some godly weapon. Though, with his years of never leaving the city and limited knowledge within it, he did not learn many practical things about alchemy or machines. As he entered his twenty third year, he saw it fit to finally venture out into the world, which in his mind was filled to the brim with monsters and all sorts of horrible things. His goal was to eradicate these creatures with his godly machinations and potions, living life as one big fever dream.
