How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is when you use knowledge that you learned in the real world and not as your character, in character for any reason, be it for your own gain or not. If you played a farmer who lived in the far outskirts of a city and your character suddenly knows a person they know died inside of the city not but minutes ago and they head for the Cloud Temple monks to meet their friend, that is heavy metagaming.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is when you portray actions as happening without it being reasonable, and or when you perform feats which dont make any sense for your character, often powergaming is used in fights. For example, if you robbed somebody and while running from the guards you just happen to dodge all their arrows while on foot, you took blows from their swords and you not only take no damage from this or exhaustion from running, that would be powergaming.

The boat ride itself while mainly uneventful and calm despite one or two bouts of arguing between passengers had Ydrisa on edge, and finally stepping back on land after such a long trip had her giving a soft sigh of relief. She closed her eyes as she breathed in a deep breath, listening to the sounds of the bazaar and opening her eyes to look out towards it hopefully. She took one step, then two more somewhat nervously when she noticed the gentleman walking towards her with such confidence. When he spoke at first she looked behind her, wondering if maybe he was talking to another and if she needed move out of his way. Upon seeing nothing behind her however she grew flustered, head spinning back forward and meeting his gaze. "Oh! You, you mean me?" Her tongue tumbled over itself clumsily, making her feel a little more embarrassed as she gave a warm smile. The man's friendliness was already helping put her at ease, especially with the large smile he was giving her. "Nothing too grand has brought me here in particular.. Adventure would be nice, so would wealth, but mostly I hope I can find a place to work hard and bring people smiles." She spoke with a bit of pride, standing herself taller. "You have a lovely smile sir. I do hope you dont mind me asking, but what might your name be, and do you have any tips for me perchance? I've never been to a place so large nor so busy before!" Her eyes trailed off part way through her sentence, looking towards all the tents and people walking about, a feeling of unease quickly beginning to bubble up within her chest one more.
