In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I usually keep in mind both my character's strenghts, weakness and limits and rp along those traits. If they lean more torwards the schoolar type of character for example, it would make sense that even though they are very knowledgeable and book smart, he wouldn't have the same physicall aptitude as a hard working soldier. Following this same example, I constantly keep their speciality fields my characters has as I rp them, and I act accordingly to them. When in doubt about if an emote/action would be too unrealistic to them, I communicate with the other people present in the rp as we try to reach a general consensus.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: It breaks the immersion of the rp. Once one uses outside info to benefit somehow into the story, a disruption is created where not only those invested on rp and progressing the story as a whole get into an ankward position, where they might feel discouraged to keep going on with their future events and encounters, but as well this same disruption might lead to a case of powergaming, as the unfair use of information might provide different degrees of benefits inside of the narrative.

Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Ogrim stops for a moment as the hag  speaks, a bit confused at surprised about what they said. He takes a few seconds to respond, nodding to himself as if in fact were meant to be here "Well, I don't see why not", he speaks up, steadly stepping closer to the cushion as he eventually sits on it, lifting a bit of dust in the air to his stature and weight. Ogrim places his bag right besides him, making a clinking sound as the many trinkets and tools shuffles inside the simplistic leather bag, "I'm Ogrim Bhakram. I'm not quite sure if you already knew it but... Regardless of that, nice to meet ya"  says Ogrim as he lightly bow his head towards the hag as a sign of respect. "Currently, I'm travelling on a... Pilgrimage of sorts to hone some of my talents, both as a warrior and aspiring blacksmith. Of course, I could've stayed around home, it would be good to be that close to what I'm familiar with..." his posture and expression shifts for a moment, seemingly getting nostalgic and gloomy at the same time, but Ogrim quickly go back for his relaxed self as he shakes his head a bit, quite literally shaking of such feelings "But well, every bird is destined to fly away from their nests once they are old enough, aren't they? Might not be a bird, but I suppose that there would be some sort of growth if I seek for it correctly." Ogrim expression is now a bit pensive as he bends his back forwards, leaning off the cushion in reflexion. "Simply putting... I'm striving to be a better fighter, a better blacksmith, a better man... However things will be, my foccus is on the road ahead, both metaphorically and literally haha!" says the Orc as he attempts his best to make humor, pointing with his thumb torwards the door of the old hag's cabin.

Even though the chat is being quite entretaining, Ogrim can be seen grasping his bag bit it's top most part and places it onto his back, tying a rope of sorts from his shoulder to his waist in order to make sure that his things aren't going to fall mid travel. "Well, thank ya for the hospitality ma'am, I consider myself a rather regular fella, but I still hope my story was somewhat interesting for you hehe. Not sure if we are to meet again, but wouldn't mind stopping once more for a chat. May the spirits of old guide be with you ma'am." says Ogrim,  slightly bowing his head once more towards the hag as he finishes to pack his things and leave through the same door he was invited in. On the table, it's possible to see that he left an old brass button on it before leaving.
