In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: To avoid powergaming, I always write actions that give the other person a chance to react. For example: “Poyrax lunges forward, aiming his blade toward the guard’s chest.” This way, the guard’s player can decide what happens next.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I avoid metagaming by keeping my in-character knowledge separate from what I know outside the game. If my character doesn’t learn something in roleplay, then I don’t act on it.

Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Poyrax approached a tattered tent at the edge of the swamp. The flap shook as he pushed it aside, revealing a dim interior lit by flickering candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag slowly raised her head, her eyes glinting in the candlelight.

Hag: “Ah… it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit.”

Poyrax lowered himself onto a cushion, his cloak wrapped tightly around him to hide his face. His green eyes darted to the floating candles before he fixed his gaze on the hag.

Poyrax: “I do not come with an easy story. I have walked through swamps and stone, carrying secrets that weigh heavily on me. If you have truly been expecting me, perhaps you already know why I am here.”

Hag: Her eyes narrowed, studying him carefully. “Perhaps I do… but words must still be spoken. What do you seek, young traveler?”

Poyrax: He shifted slightly, keeping his voice low but steady. “Guidance. Knowledge. And if you are willing, a way to correct mistakes I have made in the past. But beware—some truths are better left buried.”

Hag: A dry chuckle escaped her lips, the sound like brittle leaves cracking. “Brave words for one so young. Very well. Speak carefully, Poyrax. Every choice has its consequences.”

Poyrax leaned back slightly, considering his next words. The candles flickered, casting long shadows that danced across the walls of the tent. Outside, the swamp seemed to grow quieter, as if the world itself was waiting for him to continue.

Poyrax: “Then I will start from the beginning… and reveal only what is necessary. For some truths… are too dangerous to share all at once.”

The hag nodded, her gaze unwavering. The atmosphere thickened, charged with anticipation, as Poyrax began to recount the fragments of his journey that had led him to this forsaken town.

Hi there! Your application has been put on pending as there are changes that need to be made before you can be accepted. See below.

  • Please review our Wiki’s definition of Powergaming and Metagaming. Your response is not quite right. Ensure to include an example of how you personally avoid powergaming & metagaming in your response. If you're having a hard time writing something down/or don’t know how else to word it, contact a community member. If you need help, please feel free to reach out. https://wiki.lordofthecraft.net/index.php?title=Metagaming_%26_Powergaming.You can also learn more about combat roleplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIJioVePKYo
  • In your Roleplay Scenario & Background, please remember to add dialogue of your character speaking! This is to ensure we know what your character is doing!
  • Please change your character’s actions to 3rd person. Example: Judy stomps her foot on the ground. “How dare you!” she screams.

If you do not make these changes within 48 hours,  you will be denied. When you are finished, please message me on Discord @cheese1sgrater to let me know, or if you don’t have Discord, send me a forum message, and please do ask if you have any questions.
