Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

"I collect relics" Marcus finally sighed. "Or, I suppose it would be more accurate to say I chronicle and catalogue everything and anything: biology, geology, religion, philosophy, mythology, history, sociology, politics, wars, treaties, plants, animals. If it can be described than I aspire to have a description or, better yet, a sample." Marcus' eyes began to shine with gleeful energy as he spoke, his pace increasing until his speech was barely above gibberish. He took a deep inhale before continuing, "And what brings me here specifically is the prospect of finding culture from a society long sunken into this marsh, slumbering right beneath this very town!" Marcus produced a piece of paper with scribbled sidenotes and detailed depictions of a long lost civilization, droning on about architecture, his voice buzzing like the insects prowling the murky waters that would soon relinquish the reliquaries he sought...
