Laurent was born a Heartlander, simultaneously with his twin brother Kantain to a knight named Ashford, the two boys killing their mother in the process of birth. As a youth, residing in the meager village and holdfast of Dresden, Laurent had grown fascinated with the virtues of honor and justice, contrasting the nihilistic and pessimistic views of the children around him – such as his own brother, whom he contrasted with greatly. Laurent had been obedient but stoic towards his father, providing a poor relationship after suffering his more violent, strict tendencies. Ultimately, Laurent was bitterly eager to leave Dresden behind and squire for a Hanseti knight, serving him in travel and battle for many years leading to his own knighting at nine and ten. His experiences in battle left Laurent disillusioned from sentiments of glory, however, as he’d watch his tutor and role model fall in battle. After this, he returned to his home town to find it a burnt up, deprecated husk of what it once was, with the holdfast reduced to a single tower. His father eventually suffered a violent end as well but had once declared that he should take that single tower as his sigil, and after Laurent and Kantain were forced to reunite upon the death of their kin and home, they agreed to not only adhere to his wishes but to take the surname ‘Dresdner’ in memory of the abandoned place.
Laurent now roves Arcas, searching to create a conclusion for his childhood ambition – to swear fealty to a good lord and serve honorably.
