Sardine_

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Quietly sitting down placing his sack next to him, Lohner takes in the surrounding tent then faces the woman. He looks at her trying to understand her intentions, looking for a twitch of the mouth or a dart of the eye. After a few long seconds Lohner realizes he is in no danger and sits back into his chair. He sighs and chuckles

"My story, well that's a first, we'd be hear all day."

He takes a sip of the tea that has been laid out on the table, savoring the aroma.

"I've come looking for a new start. Times are changing, old and tired lords are getting well... old and tired. Young and ambitious heirs are coming to power and are out for blood. Loyalty and honor have no place in this new world of deceit and subterfuge; no place for a man like me."

He finishes the tea in one quick motion and gently put it down.

"My lord met his end during a skirmish where he should not have been but being the righteous man he was, he was their leading his men. His son on the other hand was a cocky and flamboyant, too focused on the theatrics of everything. With his father's death and a sudden rise to power he became bloodthirsty even if it destroyed everything his father built."

Lohner clenches his hands.

"He didn't listen to reason, the only thing that mattered to him was getting revenge and he wanted it yesterday. In a world with a small line between prosperity and destruction he didn't care. I had to leave, for my my own sake and my lords as I could not watch his kingdom be damned by a fool."
