Azhug’s father was not his mother’s lifemate; rather, he was a miserable whelp who came into her life as quickly as he had left. When Azhug was born, his mother, gazing upon an unimpressive cub, knew that her other mates would have him culled if he did not gain weight. Despite his mother’s best efforts, as the years passed, Azhug still didn’t meet the expectations of his peers. It was only a matter of time until  something would have to be done about him, and so his mother decided to let the wilderness decide Azhug’s fate.

When he was kicked out of his home, he knew that he would never again be able to rely on others to survive. Despite the odds, he eked out an existence in the wild. Willing to eat just about anything, and eager to prove himself, Azhug eventually realized what little potential he had. In 1513, at fourteen, he returned to the War Uzg to stay. Azhug found that his kin were far too busy in their war against the Dwarves to give much attention to him, and he easily rejoined their ranks by participating. The war was just coming to its end, and he earned his own sliver of glory by killing a young Dwarf. Almost as soon as Azhug had become a true Uruk in the eyes of his people, the world was accosted by a worm of unfathomable size. He did not join the others in their sorrow over the loss of their home, for his time in Athera was a miserable chapter he wished to forget about. As he set foot on the foreign soil of Vailor, Azhug felt excited to begin his life as an Uruk.
