You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, you notice the silhouettes of shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Mijime stops, not noticing the figure at the back of the tent. "I—I'm sorry for the intrusion... I'm just trying to find a passage to Koyo-Kuni. You mistake me someone else."

The crone chuckles a wet laugh. "Sweetie, I know everybody who passes here. I know you cannot see very well, but I hope you can at least see hospitality when it is right in front of you.

"What—" Mijime's voice gets caught in shock. Her eyes dart over to the small woman. "I— I never—"

"As I said, I know everybody who passes through." The old hag says with a smile, patting the cushion on the ground again. "I know who everybody is, however I have no knowledge of who they were or who they are trying to be. So please, enlighten me."

The young half-elf kneels down with a sigh. "I'm not much of anybody myself. I've been mostly blind from birth, so I've been jumping around towns looking for whatever work I can find. Mostly lookout work. I can see far away clearly, so it's really the only thing I'm worth... and even then it doesn't last long..."

"Oh you poor soul," the crone says over the scrape of a flint on rock. The smell of tea begins to fill the dingy tent. "And what do you hope to find in Koyo-Kuni?"

With a small bow of her head, Mijime accepts the steaming cup of tea. A fruity herbal blend. "I was told of some people there. Some family, apparently. I just hope that..." Mijime pauses, and looks down at the blurred form of the cup. "I just hope that they'll have some use for me there..."

A warm touch pulls her chin up. Mijime's gaze is met with a the vague facial shape of the old hag. Even through her blindness, the crone's eyes sparkle with youth.

"My child, you are worth more than what people make of you. Your worth can be measured by your dreams. What they mean to you. How far you are willing to push to get them. Please, Mijime, know that even the path you leave behind makes your place in this world worth it. Now you should be going. There is a cart in the town square heading out soon that you can catch."
