Torlinn arrives in a swampy, dim town, far north of Koyo-Kuni. As he looks around, his sharp gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. He’ll decide to duck and step into a semi-familiar tattered tent, hoping that he was at the right place, the inside of the tent being illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
“Well…” Torlinn stutters, trying to remember the recent events that he had undergone since the beginning of his trek. “I’ve come from a village in Koyo-Kuni, a nation that’s not too far from here. I’ve run from home because I wanted to go do something, right? Explore the lands… but I didn’t know where to start, I had asked around my village and someone said that they’d send me to you for guidance, so I grabbed my things and headed over here, never looking back, nobody really knew me back home, anyways.” It was true, though, nobody had known him back in his old village wherever that was, he has always been that weird kid that never really went out that much, but that changes today. “My whole goal for this was to make some cool friends, like nobody back at home. So I headed out, it gets dark, and then it all went wrong. The creatures lurking in the dark all come for me, I had to run a long time, but then I stumbled across here. And here we are.” “Interesting.” says the hag, “What had inspired you to take the leap to explore this world?” they inquire. “Right, I’ve been…” he stutters, trying to find nicer words to describe his situation “…sheltered? I don’t know what that means, I’ve read about it in books, but my village never let me out of its walls. I never knew how to do much, other than stay in my village and work on random peasant stuff. My parents never really cared about how the village was treating me.” “Oh dear.” exclaims the old hag, “I think it was about time you’ve left, don't you think? However, do you think you’re ready to go out to the real world beyond your comfortable village?” “I would probably never know, but I can only hope that I can fight for what’s right, and maybe save a future ‘me’ from a bad situation, as the same had been done for me.”
They finish their chat and leave the tent, Torlinn doubts himself if he made the right choice, but he was almost certain, he’ll go out and try to ‘change the world, one step at a time’, or so he thought.
And so, Torlinn Sanuri’s journey began.
