In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Basically real-life knowledge being used in game to choose the character's actions, when the character has no knowledge of what is going on. Like say if you're sneaking around and someone automatically sees you.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: The pursuit of power disregarding limitations placed on them through lore etc.
    Status: Accepted

Alorick was always a devout and scholarly child of the Brathmordakin, taking a particular attention to Ogradhad, for which he felt a personal duty. Dwedmar have a duty to knowledge and to the evenhand in relations to other races as instructed by Yemekar. Alorick was always interested in Golemancy, and the creation of life. Aloric has little memory of his mother, who left the family while he was only three years of age, and thus became closer to his brother to whom their father left most of the responsibilities of caring for him. As he aged Aloric was not as ambitious as his brother Jorvin, preferring to read in a corner of a wagon or at a table of a inn. Though he always held a deep set love for his father, even if it barely showed through. Religion perhaps gave him what he lacked in stability, the amulets and symbolistic wares of The Brathmordakin guiding the boy through calm and troubled times. This is mirrored in his soft-spokenness as well as an indecisiveness rather rare in the Dwedmar as a people.

His father and brother would go on to expand the family trading business, with the young Aloric constantly in tow. He became accustomed to movement and finding no true place home. He was adjusting to being an accessory rather than a mainstay. This only reinforced a rather seclusive and quiet demeanour. Though his brother taught him much in the way of manners and the importance of family, and this stuck with him. No matter where he may travel, kin was not far behind. Perhaps he could get used to the trading lifestyle, and with luck he might inherit some of the knowledge his brother had gained from their father.

Though when the day the caravan was attacked, and while the men ran out to confront the bandits, Aloric went with them dagger in hand and determined as ever. If only his skill matched his loyalty he might have won that day. Yet it was not to be for the youngster, for as quickly as he had joined the fray he had been pushed aside by the elders, insisting it was too dangerous they encouraged him to run. So he did, though not far. He ran to a nearby ridgeline and waited for the fighting to subside. He cursed himself for his cowardice, and as he slowly returned he had found his brother amongst a score of those he had grown to know. Guilt consumed him, and as he sit atop hill overlooking the carnage before him, he had no idea what he might do, where he might go. It seemed for the first time in his life Aloric was completely alone.
