Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Lirit gives her a lopsided smile while she studies them, but sits down awkwardly. They relax into the cushion for a few seconds before sitting up and clearing their throat.
"Oh a long story it's been," they start, pulling a flask from their pouch before taking a small swig. "Hope you're prepared to listen."
"This one had a sibling once, long before I traveled the world. Muggy was his name, chaotic that one was--he looked nothing like me. We stole and schemed, thinking us kids would find no trouble. Our moms didn't know, but one day we couldn't keep it a secret. We were very religious you see... but every kid rebels, right? You 't see we upset Qintok, who people called the Mountain, thinking two kids could con him out of his gold. It was a success, but Muggy couldn't escape. I left him behind. Local authorities took him in and I haven't seen him since--parents had to send him away in order to avoid punishment... especially after giving the Mountain such a dirty scar across his face. I shouldn't have given him that blade..." Lirit pauses, looking off into the distance before taking another swig.
"So once I got old enough I left home. I felt I had to go find Muggy, apologize and bring him home after pushing him away." Lirit looks up to the woman, expecting her to respond, but instead she stares, encouraging them to continue.
"Perhaps a song would suffice? We worshiped Ydea... well... not worshipped... you know what I mean. But I learned to play, often just relying on my memory," Lirit pulls out a pan flute. "You don't see many Bards of Ydea around here, or many musicians at all to be truthful, but I enjoy playing--it's how I seek my own truth. There's memory in sound you know, so sit back, relax. This is a song about my wife, Nhim (NPC). Oh, you'd love her-"

Side note: might I request adding an "other" to the character gender question for non-binary/intersex individuals.
