    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is the often frowned upon method of using out of game/character information to gain favour or insight in a particular instance.
    For example, Mme Luizetta Stevens has become pregnant out of wedlock and has confided in Mr. Clavicus Holt.
    Luizetta's player had shared this information with me out of character and I then decide to confront her as my character Aylin, about this secret she only shared with Clavicus. Another version of metagaming is when your character is flawless, impervious to any mortal wound, or the like.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming can be defined with three core thoughts:
    1. Gaining an advantage in an RP scenario through abusing mechanics would be using the game’s bugs and constraints to have a more favourable outcome for your situation, like using unloaded chunks to see under the earth or the like.


    2. Diverting from your character's physical traits or personality: If I’m playing an elderly character with a tricky knee and needing a knee replacement, I would be powergaming if I suddenly had super speed and strength! Or if I were a newcomer to the city and suddenly have in depth knowledge of the city’s sewer system.


    3. Using RP to give the other players involved no opportunity to interact or defend themselves: Ah yes, the dreaded one-sided RP: this can be in cases such as “/me stabs Borroughs in the gut” as opposed to “/me steps forward with the intention of stabbing Borroughs in the gut” or even /me grabs Borroughs’ face and kisses them” as opposed to “/me leans in for a kiss” (Consent is important, friends!)

After yet another close shave with Tarrant’s men, Aylin took a moment to ground herself after the journey at sea. She took but a moment to close her eyes and breathe deep, gathering the heady mixture of salty sea air, mingled spices from the bazaar, the symphony of different languages interwoven with the countermelody of the crashing waves and crying gulls. She could like it here, she told herself, or perhaps she was just being hopeful.

A boisterous baritone snapped her out of her reverie. Aylin blinked at him, taken aback at his sudden interrogation and took a moment to take note of the man before her. Those were rather personal questions, were they not? Could this man be the leader of this place? Regardless, he seemed well-off enough. She offered him a gentle smile and bobbed a curtsy. 

“Thank you for your gracious welcome, sir!” She began, “truly I am passing through, hoping to experience your lovely city. Perhaps you can point me in the right direction of the nearest inn, Mr…?” Her voice trailed off, hoping the stranger would introduce himself.

  • In your biography it is mentioned that your character was born in Vailor, and other lore references to that realm are also mentioned. Unfortunately, Vailor was a map we were on a few years ago, meaning that no Human character from that time could possibly be alive today. Currently we are on the map Almaris, but due to how recent the move to this realm was your persona would have been born on Arcas, the previous realm. Below I'll link some additional information, you help you with your research!

    • Due to your character's backstory, I would recommend taking a look at information relating to Korvassa, a desert island in Arcas, as it is most likely they would have been born here. This of course, is entirely up to you, and simply a location to help you in fixing your application!

    • Arcas, the previous realm of LOTC.

    • Almaris, the current realm of LOTC.

    • The Farfolk wiki page, do note that the current settlements section of this page is not currently up to date, both settlements named as currently active were present in the previous map.

    • Providence is good to stay, as that is a currently active city, so you will only need to look at the sections listed above!

  • Unfortunately, your persona can not be of direct noble descent, or start of with relations to any nobility. Although the House mentioned does not exist in game, nobility plays a big role in Human nations, a status which has been obtained through RP means.
     

  • Your application is looking really good! A few timeline changes have to be fixed, I already sent you a request on discord should help be needed with these, as I understand that it's quite a bit of research, especially given the length of your application.
