In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: In order to avoid powergaming in roleplay, one must be aware of what actions are realistic or feasible for their character to be doing. Additionally, a person should allow other characters to react in their own way. Taking turns and allowing room for other people to interact with your character makes roleplaying fun and fair. For example, if my character is an elderly human who usually struggles to get from point A to point B, it would be unfair for me to roleplay them being able to jump a fence with ease in order to take down a robber.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Using out-of-character knowledge to influence your in-character actions cheapens the experience and ruins the collaborative story we all work hard to craft. When roleplaying, you are supposed to make decisions *your character* would make based only on the knowledge they've acquired through their story (backstory or through roleplay).

Character Name: Oda (Odelia) Faerwonder
Character Race: Halfling
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 35
Physical Description: 3 ft tall, heavyset, red curly hair, buck teeth, hazel eyes, light green kirtle, dark green skirt, white apron, dark brown bodice, leather satchel
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Oda stands in the doorway of the tent, captivated by the floating candles and other curios piled around the room. As she proceeds into the warmly-lit abode, she is almost too distracted to realize that the old woman even recognized her. She absentmindedly picks a tattered old cushion among the many scattered across the dirty wooden floor and plops down onto it, tucking her feet under her body. Oda continues to look around the tent until she finally meets the eyes of the old woman.

"Oy, ahm sorreh!" Oda sits up in surprise. "Did ye sae tha' ye wer expec'din' me?" She leans forward, placing her hands on her knees, glaring suspiciously at the old woman across from her. "Aye travel qui'e o' bit for extra coin an' found m'self 'ere... 'ave we met b'fore?"

Oda pauses, visibly confused. "Hmm.. may'aps we 'ave met an' aye jus' don' recall? Ah've see alot o' faces in mah travels so I s'pose it possible..."

Oda turns to the old woman across from her and begins to relax. "Well, who ahm aye to deny someone ah storeh!" She gestures wildly, gearing up to tell the most outlandish life story ever told.
