Raised by her grandmother and father in Curon, Marion had a simple childhood. Her grandmother Leene would teach her how to sew and raised her in the teachings Canonism as best she could. Her father, Glenn, would spent most of his time in the wilderness, hunting with his beloved courser, Shadow. Her mother died in childbirth, but she's told that she is the spitting image of her. She had only one thing to know her by, her mother's prize horse, Shortcake. The white Rouncey spent most of its time in the stable or out at pasture, but it was once a fine race horse that would destroy competitions. As she grew older, she became its caretaker, braiding its mane, learning how to ride, how to show off. She took to riding like a fish in water. On the day of her first competition, she came in last place. Shortcake was well over 30 years old at this point, no matter how hard she trained, she was never going to be the show stopper she was in her youth. When she died, not long after Marion's 19th birthday, there was a great morning in the house of Dragmire. Her mother's horse, the one she had spent half her life trying to improve, was now gone. Marion mourned for the horse she loved, for the mother she felt so close with despite never having met. She spent the next few years in a haze, simply passing the days away. A few years later, Glenn was attacked by bandits, he lost Shadow and permanently destroyed part of his back. Marion realized she needed to get her act together to support her family. She set out into Arcas, to find a horse that would bring honor back to her family name.
She hesitates for a moment, startled by the man’s forwardness. “Oh, I’m just passing though, looking for work. Gotta feed my family somehow.” she smiles.
