Thorin Beerhammer, although born a Cavern Dwarf, hated the mines in which his brethren dug. He hated the dark, dank mines and he wished for freedom - to be out there in the world. Therefore, despite his high mining skill, he spent his life intentionally messing up. This was all in the hopes that he would be cast out. He did not ask for that life, and he certainly never wished for it. All he wanted was a simple life. A road-side inn where he would meet the most interesting of adventurers, where the ale would flow and music and dancing went on into the night. He would get that dream - whatever it took. Despite being a jolly and sociable dwarf, unlike most other Cavern Dwarves, Thorin would never let anyone or anything get between him and the life he wished for himself. Even if it cost him pain. The scar across his eye came from one of his mining "accidents". It was this very accident that made his brethren consider his request to leave seriously.
