Marcus was born in Carolustadt as the second son of a minor glass and cloth merchant. From a young age, his father taught him the basics of the trade. He learned to read and write, the finer points of logistical planning, and how to bookkeep. He traveled a fair bit with his father and older brother on business, learning about the world around him. During these travels, he learned that he had a knack for haggling and networking, as Marcus and his family were generally well spoken. When Marcus reached adulthood, his father retired from the trade and left the business to Marcus’ brother. Marcus worked for his brother for about a year before deciding to enlist in the city guard for several years. During his military service, he proved to be an average swordsman, but resigned his post in good standing after five years of service. From there, Marcus hopes for an opportunity to put his trade and social skills to use in His Majesty’s Government, with the goal of gaining a position of high influence.
