Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

"My story? Oh, well i don't figure there's very much to tell of my story." Balthazar says, taking out his pipe. "But-" A warm smile creeps across his face as he gently packs his pipe "I was a young boy when I first set out into the world. My Parents, bless their hearts; were adamant on me staying home with them. But..." He finished packing his pipe, lit it with a small match and took a weak drag on it- just to have the flame catch. "I had many siblings, Seventeen of them, so they weren't without help..."
He sullenly rolls the pipe back and forth in his lips, taking another small drag, puffing out a ring.
"I was not there for them when they passed, but none of my siblings were. The lord of the land called for us to go to war- luckily, mainly as cooks. UIs halfling folk aren't exactly cut out for war but the tall folk love our food." He laughs to himself, cheering up. "I was not there to be called, I was out and about with my old friend Wyndham. A wonderful badger he was, such a good companion. But he got old, much like I am now, and he went on without me."
He takes another drag from his pipe, and exhales solemnly after expelling the smoke. "I think about him a lot... He would grumble and groan in joy when I would give him some bread- he loved bread you see, and coffee too! Such a fun little creature." He rambled further, aimless like he has always wandered.
"But I'm alone now. Im an old man now, no one wants to travel with an older gentleman such as myself, thats alright. The forest is the greatest companion- food, water and wonderful sights to be seen."
He seems lost in thought for a little bit.
"I apologize, I got side tracked there- you wanted to know my story? Let me start again."
Balthazar begins weaving an incredibly messy tale, full of tangents and backtracking. His tale, stays almost the same:
He left home as a young boy, set out on adventures. He never attained too much in the form of wealth but he was happy and content. His parents passed, his siblings scattered and he and his pet badger 'Wyndham' (said Wind-um) went far and wide looking for the most beautiful places, and easy jobs to make just enough coin to eat. He is a very well traveled halfling, unusual for his race as they mostly are content to a life of quiet farming and simple pleasures, and adventures could make one late for supper, which of course; a halfling never is. In his old age, he is alone, still wandering the lands looking for whatever siblings may remain, but mostly just for good food and peaceful wanmdering.
