How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is when you make actions based on your knowledge and not on your character's knowledge.
Such as a bandit attack may have occurred on the other side of the world. Your friend just so happens to be a part of it and texts you irl about it for you to come over.
    So you do so.
That's Metagaming, A character could only know something of the event if someone were to personally tell them face to face.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Forcing roleplay actions on behalf of the other player.
Example: "John swings his sword into Jake's Chest, leaving a deep wound"
    That's Powergaming.
What's not powergaming would be something like this
"John attempts to swing his sword at jake's stomach, intending to cause a deep wound"
    Status: Accepted

"Well hello there sir!"
*Grimm said, raising his hand to greet the gentleman*
"I have come to this great city in seeking greater fortunes, I have heard many things about this place after all"
