Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
"I was just wander-" His breath catches as His throat gets dry. "Wait, how could you possible know my name? I just came from across the-" No, He thought. I must not let mouth get ahead of myself. There is much I do not know about this land and its people; I should not spill everything before I know what is going on, keep it light, just as father said. Well maybe I can let go, just this once. What harm could it do? "Well, truth is I came from across the sea" He started, firmly. "Back where I come from, my family comes from royal blood, on my mom's side that is, wait, best no get ahead of myself. I'll start at the beginning. It's a long story but I'll shorten it. Long, long ago my father was but a common peasant alongside his brother, Drigon. I can't tell you my father's name unfortunately, that's a secret. His father was a mercenary, and as such he would leave for day's on end, while my father and Drigon, worked all day on a hide, which is a patch of land the knights are given as payment instead of money, even though in this case he was obviously not a knight. My grandfather had chosen to turn his hide into farmland, as the heavy tax of the country would not spare them, thus they had to work to gain more money. If you are wondering where my grandma was, she died from a cold. All day they would work, over and over. Through this torment they found different ways to deal with the stress. Though my grandfather was almost never around, when he was, he would teach my father swordsmanship. My father was a very outgoing man you see, thus he was very determined in his youth. He was determined to be a hero. Drigon however was a much more secluded boy, He despised the government for putting my family in their position, so every night he would go out and practice magic. He was very good at it my father said. One time my father caught him, practicing, He said it was perhaps the greatest he'd ever seen. Not that he'd seen a lot though. Well, as time passed on, the two became more and more distant, until their bond finally snaped after my grandfather died in battle, when they were both 20. I'm sorry is this story to long? I wanted to make it good but let's shorten it so you can learn more about me. Anyway, eventually my father learned, Drigon had taken over the capital by manipulating the princes into letting him be king, by marriage, and holding the king and queen hostage. Anyway, you know how the story goes, my father, became and hero fought his way through the castle guards, wooed the princess, my mother, even though she's very stubborn. And finally, he fought Drigon, and stabbed him in the gut. Unfortunately, Drigon had some sort of glowing tattoo as my father called it, and his body vanished. My father married my mother and was Offred the king By the old king for saving his life and his people. My father being the most humble person to ever walk refused and refused although the king was insistent. Finally, he settled at being the one and only politician in the kingdom. I don't know how, I'm not even sure what a politician is and I'm sure the king did not get it correct, but ever since he has been making the kingdom better, including making me. Just kidding. My father still refuses to be royalty, what with the whole messed up system making his family suffer and all. But every night my father is haunted by nightmares, he has become so anxious. He even taught me swordsman ship just like my grandfather taught him. Anway's, it didn't help his anxiety that my kingdom was invaded by the weird creatures. So he sent me off, across the sea, hoping I could survive that way. Fortunately, I was not brought up as a spoiled brat as you can see."
