In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: When I can identify power gaming in roleplay I tend to stay away from the player or group responsible unless an RP scenario is unavoidable. I keep repeated tendencies to power game in mind and in its worst cases try to build a case of notably rule breaking events or unjust actions taken as a result of power gaming that would then boarder the lines of failrp.

How I avoid power gaming in roleplay is sticking strictly to what I believe are the realistic limits of my character, and referencing what those limits are based on resources provided or sources (like server wiki for what feats my character could perform). An easy way to avoid power gaming is always the use of 'attempting' actions that effect other characters , giving them ample opportunity to respond in various ways.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: metagaming ruins the integrity of roleplay scenarios because it alters the conditions that either cause the roleplay to happen, or the events that would proceed after metagaming influences the roleplay. It only favors the metagamer(s) and brings issues out of the game, and into OOC where accusations can only be put onto the real individual playing the character. Taking away from roleplay on top of destroying its integrity going forward.

Character Name: Lyrath Alune
Character Race: Dark Elf
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 18
Physical Description: Lyrath stood at 6'4, his skin a deep purple hue paired with inky black hair, contrasting pale grey eyes and sclera whose color looked one in the same.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Lyrath shambled through the entrance of the tent, fixing his hair away from his eyes as his attention fixated quietly on the floating candles. His focus returned to him as his ear flickered hearing the woman speak, properly turning his head to face her and slowly bringing himself to follow her direction. "Right-" he said affirmingly while taking a seat and gazing blankly over the hag before speaking his 'story'. "Long as I've remembered, I grew up on a farm owned by my 'Pa'. He was a good man, sheltering myself and others from the realm.. often regaling us with stories of the world we had yet to see."

His eyes narrowed on the floor for a moment before his features relaxed once more, "I was the night watch, and a helping hand. The others say I kept to myself but, I've never felt that was the case. It was something about the sheer abundance of the night sky that brought me comfort or a sense of 'company', and the moon's light to me has always felt like a tangible presence." He paused on his words, speaking in a calm tone and continuing his story carefully.

"When 'Pa' had passed, the others fled in droves. I stayed behind.. the farm had long gone, but I was uncertain and content with what little I had come to know." He locked his fingers together as his hands sat firmly in his lap, gleaming forward blankly in thought as he spoke his next words faintly and with expectations of being judged. "One night, I swear to this day that the gaze of the Moon became one of judgement. Disappointment at my inaction, it was then that I decided to leave that place, since beginning my travels that feeling of judgement from the moonlight has disappeared, but I honestly couldn't tell you what brought me here.. I'm hoping you could tell me."
