    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is using out of character information during role-play and can ruin roleplaying games. Whether a player is accidentally or purposely metagaming is irrelevant because either way, it’s bad roleplay. Some metagamers use OOC knowledge to their advantage IC which is the reason why it’s wrong. FOR EXAMPLE: If Player A was planning a sabotage on Player B, and decided to tell Player C in character but then Player C messages Player B about this in real life out of character, that is metagaming and cheating. It ruins the RP for all 3 involved.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is when a player intends to give themself an unrealistic advantage in which their roleplaying character doesn’t possess. Powergaming will purposely ensure the player has more power over others when their RP character doesn’t. FOR EXAMPLE: Player A tries to wield power over Player B by saying "My strike cuts your arm off your body" which is influencing the RP to where Player B cannot control. A better phrase would be "My strike attempts to cut your arm off" because this gives Player B a chance to possibly go along with the RP instead of forcing it.

You’ve just stepped off of the boat in the port of a massive and fortified city. Before you lies a sprawling bazaar, with numerous shops, stalls, and seated traders selling wares to folk of all walks of life. Just as you’re about to continue walking onwards, into the market, you’re approached by a well-dressed gentleman who looks upon you with a big smile. “Welcome!” He began. “What brings you to this lovely city? Adventure? Wealth? Or some grand aspirations to elevate your place in society?” 

 

Pimpul had never seen such a sight in his entire life and looks on in absolute awe at what is before him. His younger brother Triton darts off into one of the shops. Pimpul looks at the well dressed man with confusion and is met with an awkward stare. The longer he pauses the more the wealthy man's eyes seem to drift looking at his clothing and scar.

The wealthy man once again pauses as Pimpul flashes a painfully forced smile.

That depends... Do you have any money on you traveller? - Wealthy Man

Pimpul's attention span has let him down once again as he is clearly disinterested in the conversation he is engaged in due to him not understanding half the words. He barges past the wealthy man with his scar disgustingly grazing his face and heads towards Triton in a shop filled with unique and expensive items.

 

Limmy MacGoblin, Pimpul's elder brother helps the wealthy man up from the floor.

The wealthy man looks distraught.

CUT TO:

Pimpul runs towards Triton in the expensive clothes shop and they are both smiling. Pimpul searches through the trove of clothes in search of the sacred blue tunic and after an hour of searching he finds it. His eyes widen and lets out a gasp and takes it to the checkout with Limmy and Triton by his side.

Limmy reaches into his bag as he is the only one out of the three that understands the concept of money. As he does this Triton starts to sway and he lets out an enormous sneeze causing his huge frame to fall over the counter and as he tries to keep standing tall he pulls on the wonderful blue tunic ripping it in half. Pimpul is in shock, Limmy is embarrassed and the shop owner is injured.

They walk off as Pimpul's tears well up.
