    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is gaining information outside of RP then using that information IC to gain an advantage, such as being told that there is going to be an assassination attempt at a meeting and pre-emptively setting up measures to prevent that purely because of the meta information.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is using unrealistic actions that aren't plausible to gain an advantage in any specific scenario. This could include an example such as a civilian that is small in stature and not very well built taking down a larger and more muscular man with a single punch.

*Sebastian scratches the back of his raven coloured hair anxiously.* "I uh... I'm here to search for information on alchemy."

This is what Sebastian dreaded. People. Ugh.

He seemed rather clueless to the man, who is going to respond, but before he can, Seb opens his mouth again.

*He puts his pale hands inside of the pockets on his ragged cloak.* "Do you know where I can find some...?" He says, whilst avoiding eye contact at all costs.
