His parents abandoned him and his brother Marcus when they were little. So they had to grow up alone in the streets of Oren. Being the youngest of the 2, he had the easiest. Nakram was steeling valuable item in Marcus' back but being the unlikeable person Nakram is, he couldn't manage to sell any of it. Markus however was a very sociable and persuading person, so he managed to sell the stuff without to much trouble. They managed to make a living that way.
