Seath Blackwood was born in Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska on the outskirts of Markev to Dewain Blackwood and a local bar wench. Seath’s father was a local butcher coming from a small but humble family of tanners and hunters; his parents were devout Canonists. At the age of 5, Seath’s father was levied by a local noble to settle some local land disputes. Two years later, Seath’s father came back a changed man: he started drinking heavily, was prone to angry outbursts, and refused to go back to butchery. Seath was forced to find work in Markev to help make some coin, however his father had a habit of taking what little they had to the pub.

When Seath was 9, his mother came down with various symptoms of an illness beyond his understanding, which left her bedridden. Any money for a doctor that Seath could scrounge up was also soon drank away by his father. At the age of 11, Seath’s father left town; but Seath’s mother never gave up hope that’d his father would return one day. Seath soon began pickpocketing money from unsuspecting travels to afford to take care of his mother and get her proper medical attention. However, her illness had progressed far beyond what medicine could do and so it was only a matter of time before she died when Seath was 15. 

Over the next two decades Seath drifted from town to town, quickly becoming disillusioned with the state of the world as it was. To survive he stole, murdered, betrayed; every crime simply a means to the end. After several close encounters with death and a few particularly traumatic decisions, he began having night terrors; making him turn to drink so he can sleep at night. In search of salvation for many things he’s done in the past, Seath adherently searched for answers in his faith, and soon after for answers in the faiths of others; yet found nothing. His night terrors began to make Seath have a growing paranoia of what lurked in the shadows, waiting for him to slip up.  

 At some point, Seath heard of a clan of Blackwoods that started venturing into the sellsword business and traveled to where they settled, in hope of finding answers of his father and perhaps find a way of making amends in his life.
