In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is like placing your knowledge into your character's brain. Suppose there is a battle or a scuffle in a neighboring village and your character is in a separate town. In that case, there is no possible way they could've known about the situation unless another character has told them. Or, if your character doesn't know a particular language and they don't know what it says but you, the player, know what it says, your character has no way of knowing its meaning.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Powergaming is your character making drastic, perhaps even life-altering decisions for another player. You must ask permission to make such changes or attempt to do said action. Say you want to slice someone's arm off but the other character may wish to keep their arm. You cannot make that decision for them. Another is staying in character. If your character is a child, then they cannot lift a large rock or run at high speeds. The same goes for an elderly character. This also applies to powers. You must have some weakness and cannot be "unbeatable." It's simply not fair to other roleplayers.

Stordulm and Helephine met at the Crown of Amaethea, where he labored as a leatherworker, and she a seamstress. Helephine -- a wood elf -- would often deliver Stordulm -- a human -- threads and needles upon his requests. Sometimes he did not need the supplies, he simply wished to be graced with her glowing presence. Before they knew it, they were enchanted by one another. Some time passes and they are expecting a child together. When Helephine went into labor, the midwife experienced complications with their child's birth, and Helephine would not survive. Helephine's last words were to her lover: her wishes to name their son "Falorin." Falorin's father, a human, raised him. Stordulm tried to teach Falorin about his elvish roots, but he could not for he didn't know much about them. The Crown of Amaethea would arouse painful memories of Helephine for Stordulm; so, he packed his things, took Falorin, and moved to The Kingdom of Elysium. Falorin grew up in a small, comfortable suburb with his father. As a child, Falorin felt most at home in areas with trees and brush. As he grew into his pubescent years, Stordulm would leave for multiple days to find more about Helepine and her family and to tell them of Falorin. Stordulm yearned for more knowledge about the wood elves and their heritage so he could teach it to his beloved son. Little did he know, Falorin felt abandoned by his father when he left and would cause trouble around the city. Spending days by himself, he's learned to care for himself on busy streets, sleight of hand, persuasion, charisma, and more wholesomely, to play the viol. Walking around the streets of Elysium made Falorin feel alone. He never truly felt elvish, but he never felt truly human. Throughout his turmoil, music was what grounded him when he felt most isolated. Lively taverns, street performers, and pop-up concertos were where he yearned to be.

As Falorin grew older, his love for music never ceased and his knowledge of the wood elves grew from his father's stories and research. Sadly Stordulm never found any next of kin for Helephine and Falorin would never stop asking about her, but Stordulm could not answer his burning questions. After one night of Falorin badgering his father about his mother, Stordulm caved and told him where they had first met. Almost instantaneously, Falorin wished to go on a journey to find out his ancestry and where he belonged. His father momentarily suggested against it but the pleading look in his son's eyes softened his toughened heart, so he let his son go. Stordulm owed it to him and he would give anything for Falorin to know who he truly was. So this brings Falorin on his journey from The Kingdom of Elysium to The Crown of Amaethea, where he hopes to find out who he really is.
