Before Ellie was born, her family lived in the capital city of Oren, Al'Khazar. When the city was overrun with undead, Ellie's great-great-grandfather, Hod Undertree, fled the city with his wife and children to find a new, safer, home. This proved to be a struggle since their family had lived in the same place for hundreds of years. The Undertree family got by as farmhands, working at farms that could at least provide shelter and food for a few days. Eventually, Ellie's father, Timothy Undertree, was born and stayed true to the traveling farmhand line of work. He met a fellow halfling named Sarah on his travels. They quickly fell in love and a few years later, Ellie was born. Soon after she was born though, Sarah became deathly ill and passed away. With his heart crushed and being left alone to raise Ellie, Timothy decided he needed to settle down somewhere. Traveling far and wide, continuing to pick up jobs as a farmhand and teach Ellie, he searched for a halfling village where he and his daughter could live a peaceful life.
Having been raised with only a father who worked for most of his life, Ellie spent many days alone as a child. She was too little to help her father with work and would just be a nuisance. As she grew older though, her father taught her how to help around a farm and she even picked up a few things from the people her father would work for. During this time, she discovered baking. This discovery turned into a passion and realized she wanted to become a baker. Timothy continued his search for a place for them to live and eventually heard about the village of Dunshire. While traveling to the village, Ellie's father was already quite old and working for most of his life certainly took a toll on him. Unfortunately, he passed away before they could reach Dunshire. Stricken with grief, Ellie continued on to the village, knowing that would be what her father wanted her to do.
