Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

"Oh, I am Akinori Swiftshadow, Nice to meet you. I am from Celia'nor, a city of light and beauty, but let me tell you, it has its shadows, too. I was born here, at the heart of its gold towers and enchanted glow. My family once was named Swiftshadow and stood high among the artisans of this city. My father was a craftsman; his relics were so fine they said even the gods would envy them. But envy breeds lies, and some person with power did not like how bright we shone. They accused my father of forging enchanted relics, claimed he dirtied the purity of Celia'nors legacy. The truth didn't matter. The sentence was swift, and we were cast out like thieves.
"I was a boy when we fell from grace, forced to live in the lower districts. That's how I survived. You don't get to grow up in those streets without picking up a few tricks-how to move unseen, how to listen when no one thinks you're there, and how to take what you need without getting caught. It wasn't long before I realized that I was good at it, too good.
"I hated the aristocracy for what they did to us, but just could not help being drawn to their glittering mansions and their smug faces. So, I started slipping into their world-first out of curiosity, then out of necessity. Initially, it was just to feed my family, but then it became much more. I would see the way they would hoard and amass all that wealth and would crush anyone that even dared to get in their way. And then I made a choice: if they would not share their riches, then I would take them myself and make sure they landed in the hands of those who needed them.
"Everything I do has a reason. Every heist, every secret I dig up, has to do with one greater scheme. My father never deserved what happened to him, and I will prove it. I will clear my family's name or bring this corrupt system down trying. They call me a thief, a scoundrel, a shadow that passes in the night, unseen. Me? I am a son trying to put things right in a city that seems to have forgotten what justice looks or feels like.
