Jordan Mormet was born in the city of Sutica, and spent the early years of his life with his two friends Robert and Theo doing their best to earn some meagre pay to keep bread on the table. As a young man, he trained in the art of the blade, and proved to be quite proficient in it. His luck soon ran out, as he lost vision in his right eye whilst training, leaving him with half the vision. After that, he did work as a whaler, the rough seas shaping him into a hardened and bitter man, and that worsened through his impulsive marriages to several wives whilst he was abroad. Eventually, he returned home after several years at sea, making plans with Robert and Theo to leave their home to become knights in a distant lord's army. Aside from the challenges he may face along the way, Jordan is determined to serve as an honest man.

She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”
