In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: In Minecraft there are multiple powergamming game mechanics like elytra, enchanted golden Apple or totem but they can incorporated in lore using fantasy term but offcourse mass production of them is powergamming.

Exploiting a game glitch is possible powergamming, for ex- tnt dupe.

Although these things are supercool and fun but when roleplay they became unfair to new players and the players who genuinely wants to roleplay.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is when player get an information out of their character bounds by some unfair factor.

For example- finding out the murderer in murder mystery game due to a discord msg from your friend who died by the murderer

Example: while looking down at the old hag veylthan responds "old hag what is this town? Why is it so barren? The last time I visited a town like this everyone was already dead. You are quite lucky to be alive

old hag-  Lucky?, it would've been better if I died, after fighting those orcs my son and daughter already died, this town is left with little soldiers and cannot be protected anymore. All they are doing is delaying it's destruction a few more days or a week if they don't loose hope midway.

Veylthan- 'after putting down his heavy axe who looked near the entrance of town where he came from'. "Right, quite the ordeal this town is engaging in. Want me to clear out the orcs for you

the payment won't be cheap though"

old hag-'looking angrily at veylthan without any fear'.

"Payment? If we had any more money left we could've hire a whole mercanry group to clear out the orcs.

all the money this town can generate has already been spent on a group a few weeks ago.

Veylthan- 'looking at the old hag without any sympathy and speaking haughtily'

"Oh, what mercenary group I don't see any? or they just ran away

Old hag- already died, youngsters..... Though orcs as weak, they can just roam in orc camp... Kill all the orc in single day and finish the job.

overestimated themselves dying on the first day of their battle. The older ones survived for a few weeks but later died due to a misinformation from a scout.

well if you are still after gold, the orcs have raised a few towns and village before coming here, kill them and take their gold

veylthan- "you sure know how to lure men old hag but still I won't mind clearing out those orcs for you and i'll consider the money from orc as a tip.
